Polishing Concrete to Look Like Granite

Innovative Concrete Systems removed VCT flooring and cut back from a hospital built in the 1960s, and then polished the existing concrete. The aggregate in the existing floor was exposed through the polishing process, and the result was the look of a granite floor. "This is a true polished concrete floor," says Kimberly Carroll of ICS. "There are no coatings on this floor. People walk in and they think we put in a granite floor."
A diagonal pattern was cut into the concrete, and then the floor was stained with two colors by Kemiko Concrete Products, golden wheat and black. The floor was sealed using Retroplate hardener/densifier. Prosoco SOS 100 impregnator was also used and soaked into the concrete.
